I would love to not have to manufacture my own transitions every time I need to use a cool one. (or maybe this is the norm). I would advise you to stay clear of Red Giant's free transition pack. In my particular case, they made Premiere extremely unstable.

Since you mentioned manufacturing your own transitions, after uninstalling Red Giant I ended up doing just that, recreating my own transitions based on the ones I liked the most from RG free package. To avoid recreating them every time I need one, I use a template project with a single timeline and two sample video clips. I simply manufacture one transition after another in a single timeline, and when I need one, I open the template as read-only and copy-paste the filters from my template into my project. All of the keyframes are copied along and is just a matter of adjusting them on my project. I downloaded and installed the film impact transitions. There were definitely a couple on there I know I would have ended up using, but not long after I installed them my project would quit unexpectedly.

I'm not sure if this is a common thing with the trial version but as soon as I would apply one of the effects with a watermark my project would lose its shit. I did like the impact flash and impact blur dissolve though. Those were what I was looking for and at least I can re-create those.
